3D Nipple and Areola Reconstruction Tattoo

What is 3D Nipple and Areola Reconstruction Tattoo?

Breast cancer can cause a huge toll on people both physically and mentally. Many breast cancer survivors struggle with a loss of identity and confidence after mastectomy. 3D nipple or 3D areola reconstruction is a permanent tattoo technique that creates an illusion of natural, 3D areolas and protrusion of the nipples. The results are amazingly realistic.

This service is most common for women and men who have undergone breast cancer or mastectomy. Not only does this procedure restore the natural beauty of your breasts but it also provides confidence and a sense of completeness.

Who is a Suitable Candidate?

3D nipple and areola reconstruction tattoos are ideal for those who lost their areola and/or nipples due to certain circumstances. You may be a suitable candidate if:

  • You are a breast cancer survivor
  • You have undergone mastectomy
  • You have naturally asymmetrical areolas or nipples
  • The colors of your areolas are too dark or pale
  • The size of your areolas is disproportionate
  • You have scars, birthmarks, and other skin imperfections
  • You have undergone breast implants or reduction and wish to change the pigment or shape of your nipples
  • You are diagnosed with vitiligo and have lost the melanin surrounding your nipples
  • You had a sex reassignment

    In Depth Consultation

Prior to treatment, it is important to get clearance by a doctor to make sure that your body has healed if you have undergone surgery (we recommend to book the nipple/areola reconstruction at least 3-4 months post operation). During our consultation, we will take the time to carefully explain the tattoo procedures, what to expect, how long it takes, and after care instructions. This is your opportunity to tell us about your preferences and even share photos of your desired results. We also encourage you to ask any questions you may have. Our permanent makeup artist Angela Hobbs will closely work with you to design the nipple-areola placement, shape, size, color for an ultra realistic look. Angela has over 18 years of experience in the permanent makeup industry and is qualified to perform this procedure.

    Procedure and Aftercare

The tattooing process itself is fairly straightforward and may take a few hours in total. Using a combination of color, shading, and dimension, our makeup artist will create a pair of natural and realistic nipples/areolas. This procedure is completed in one session with an average healing time of around 2 weeks. You may notice that the pigments look darker initially, but after 2 weeks they will fade a bit and settle into the expected color. After your appointment, dressings and clear after care instructions will be provided.

    Does it Hurt?

After mastectomy, it is not uncommon for numbness to linger in the breasts due to the cutting of nerve endings. Most clients feel little to no pain during the procedure; we may apply anesthetic topical cream to eliminate any discomfort. You may however feel a vibration sensation when pigments are transferred by the tattoo needle into your skin.

    How long does it last?

The tattoo typically last for many years but colors may fade over time. At some point, you may want to come in to have your colors refreshed.
