Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions
What areas can be treated with Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back. It can also treat sensitive areas like the chest, areola, and bikini line.
How many treatments will I need?
Most areas require 5 to 10 treatments, but the number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as your hairs? thickness, the area treated, and your hairs? growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, but actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Our laser systems work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.
What should I expect during the treatment?
You may feel a series of short snaps, somewhat like a small rubber band snapping, but no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required. However, some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.
How long will the treatments take?
Treatment times will vary depending on the area being treated.
What should I expect after the treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be re-growth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment, and are not re-growing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.
Can all hair be treated?
No. Laser or light-based system cannot treat blonde, white, red or gray hair since there is no melanin in it to absorb the light. We will evaluate if you are an appropriate candidate at the time of your consultation
Can all skin types be treated?
Yes. With our laser hair technology, we are able to treat all skin types, including light, dark or tanned skin. We will evaluate which laser will be best to use on your skin type at the time of your consultation.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes. The beauty of our technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be a little red afterward, but that typically goes away in a matter of hours. As with all medical procedures there is a slight degree of risk, and we will discuss this with you thoroughly when you come in for your consultation.
Why choose our laser systems over other laser hair removal systems?
Our technology is considered the gold standard in the laser industry because of its long history of safety and effectiveness on all skin types. The laser system’s longer wavelength allows it to be used safely and effectively on patients with light or dark skin as well as tanned skin. Our technology is effective on a wide range of skin types. It is also one of the fastest, allowing for rapid treatments of large areas. Shorter treatment times provide a nice benefit to our patients. Both treatments have cooled handpieces to increase patient comfort and minimizes the adverse skin reaction commonly seen with other lasers. Both treatment systems are safe, effective, and offer permanent hair reduction.
